Protecting Patient Access at Mount Sinai
What's happening with Cigna
Mount Sinai Health System is working with Cigna to establish a new contract before our current agreement expires on Sunday, January 31.
Our goal is to reach a fair and sustainable agreement so Cigna members can continue to have in-network access to Mount Sinai physicians, hospitals, and services.
What happens if no agreement is reached
If a new agreement is not reached before the contract expires, Mount Sinai physicians, hospitals, and services could become out of network with Cigna beginning Monday, February 1.
If Mount Sinai becomes out of network, your coverage and out-of-pocket costs for care at Mount Sinai may change depending on your health plan.
While we remain optimistic that we will reach a new agreement before the current agreement expires, we also want to ensure you have time to review other insurance options that may be available to you, either through a spouse or domestic partner or during your employer’s open enrollment period. To aid in this, a list of the plans we participate with is available at https://www.mountsinai.org/about/insurance.
What You Need to Know
- Nothing changes today. Mount Sinai remains in network with Cigna today. Please keep all the appointments and procedures you have scheduled with Mount Sinai hospitals, physicians, and outpatient services. Do not delay routine health screenings, procedures, or tests that are vital to your health.
- Continuity-of-care benefits may be available. If Mount Sinai becomes out of network, some patients receiving treatment for certain health conditions may qualify to continue receiving care at in-network benefit levels for a limited period of time. We will share additional information about how to request these benefits from Cigna as it becomes available.
- Emergency care is always covered, no matter our contract status with Cigna. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, you should seek care at the nearest emergency department.
What You Can Do Today
If you would like to make your voice heard, you have several options:
- Call Cigna at the number on the back of your insurance card and let them know you want to keep access to the Mount Sinai providers and services you know and trust.
- If you receive Cigna insurance through your employer, tell your Human Resources or Benefits Department that you want to keep access to Mount Sinai Health System’s high-quality providers and services.
- Review the insurance options available to you during your employer’s open enrollment period.
